And So It Begins...

So I'm back in high school yet with some different results. Number 1, I am definitely the second smartest person in the room most of the time (sometimes smartest). Number 2, I am at the same school I spent 3 years as a kid, well the same building different school. Kinda bringing back some memories.

I got a great CT. He is fairly young and not too far out of U of M himself (yes we talk about the profs we have had in common) yet he seems very competent with his teaching abilities and I have learned a lot in the 4 days there so far.

Couple things that I've found weird so far is the return to the same schedule everyday. I know that each day the same classes will be at the same time and the only thing different is where I spend my prep period which has been in a couple of different classes observing other teachers and trying to be of some assistance if I am able to (today's biology class I was a bit out to lunch and so stayed in the back and watched). The other weird thing is being called Mr. Barkman/Mr. B/hey what's your name again. I always thought that it wouldn't be weird when the time came but it defiantly takes some getting use to.

I'll be teaching a grade 12 consumer class starting next week and then the week after will be leading a grade 9 trans math class. Teaching students long division and fractions is a bit of a stretch as it is tough bringing the knowledge I have down to the level that they can understand (no disrespect to the students on this one). Loving being a part of the classes.

Hoping all you have an awesome time in your schools (according to the rest of this blog this is already happening) and looking forward to getting together again.

Keith

Oh yeah, loving the short commute. It takes less time to get to my classroom than the walk to the university, not counting the 40 minute drive.

  1. I know the feeling about the knowlege level. I was aswering students questions in gr 11 biology on the circculatory system so they could compleet a work sheet, and they needed an alternative name for it. So I told a bunch of kids it was also called the cardio-vascular system. When the teacher went over the work sheet the answe they were suposed to get was the transpoteation systyem? Thay looked at me like I was stupid untill one of them asked and the teacher said I was right but they didn't need to know that for the test. lol
